LIAM CUNNINGHAM IN "THE ABDUCTION CLUB" (2000).
News Flash:

The Second Death, a short film Liam filmed earlier this year, will be showing at the 45th Murphy's Cork Film Festival.
A Liam fan wrote in and said he was mentioned in a the Irish Times as having gone to the premiere of the movie Saltwater and the clip said he was sporting a very severe haircut - for a new role one wonders??? PS - this wasn't in the online version of the newspaper.
The Irish Times reports that Liam will be filming a new movie called The Abduction Club. The CV for director Bill Britten lists it as a feature film he is directing. It is said to be a romantic drama set in Ireland in 1780 and dealing with young men who raid the great houses and take the daughters away. Also in the movie are Matthew Rhys, Daniel Lapaine, and Sophia Myles and if I read the article right, Susan Lynch will have a lead role. The Irish Times reports the project is financed by Pathe © Pictures and produced by Gruber Films and Samson Films. Two other sources report Sir Nigel Hawthorne as starring in the movie.
Liam recently shot a four-part mini-series (possibly a Hallmark series) called Attila - he plays "Theodoric" so right now it is safe to go on the assumption that this is about THE Atilla.

Cinema Release, TV Viewings, and Video Release Alerts!!!

When the Sky Falls will be shown (for those in North America) on Cinemax in October. Check the TV-NOW link for times.
Although it says it is releases, A Love Divided has yet to be released by Clarence Classics in video, but you can pre-order it from Blackstar Video in PAL format only.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roster of new projects and upcoming Liam movies:

Liam is presently filming The Abduction Club. See above in News Flashes for latest info.
Liam was part of the cast of an independent film called The Island of the Mapmaker's Wife (the site previously had the title WRONG as "Island of the Mapmaker's Daughter" - many apologies) that was filmed in early 2000 in Holland. Holland Films describes the plot of the movie at this site. The film is in post production and may be based on a book of short stories of the same title by Marilyn Sides.
Liam will also have a part in a Picture Palace Productions four-part movie being produced with the BBC called Rebel Heart. News right now is that this is due to be shown on BBC the second half of this year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

News Briefs:

On 23 December 1999, the Ireland Film and Television Network posted the results of their Millennium Poll. Liam was named as one of the top 5 Irish actors. He is in very good company with Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, Donal McCann, and Gabriel Byrne.
Liam received nominations in 1999 for the first ever Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) awards for Best Leading Performer for Falling for a Dancer and Best Actor for A Love Divided. While he didn't take home one of the new awards from the 28 November 1999 awards ceremony, the nominations are a great honor! See the full nominee list at the Ireland Film and Television Network site.
The Ireland Film and Television Network: News, August 1998. reported Liam and Ciaran Hinds were to start shooting the movie Ballyshannon in January 1999. Later learned that Ciaran Hinds would be on Broadway in Closer in March 1999, making it difficult (but not impossible) for him to be filming in January. So, we asked Liam's agent and were told he was not filming Ballyshannon. Still not sure if that means it won't happen at all, if it has just been delayed, or if (cringe) Liam will not be in it.

Uncertain

Private Lives 1992 Believed to be RTE TV movie; Noel Coward anyone???

Rewind We keep seeing the title in bios, but still don't know if this was a mini-series or TV series. Possibly a 1989 short film directed by Brian Brady.
The one piece of data that is repeated in several sources is that Irish-born Liam Cunningham was an electrician in the mid 1980s when he saw an advertisement for acting lessons. Encouraged by his wife, he decided to give it a try (and we're glad he did!). A month after leaving his "day job," he won the lead in a new Irish play and followed that with a US tour in another Irish play. Other information we've pieced together from a collection of sources is as follows:

He was born in 2 June 1961 in Dublin, Ireland's North Wall area (Deduced from several sources, including Irish News Interview, 27 November 1999 and Irish-Times Interview, April 1999)
He and his wife, Colette, have a daughter and a son (Irish News Interview, 27 November 1999, UK Interview, Oct 1998, and RTE Production Notes from Falling for a Dancer)
He has four siblings - three sisters and a brother (Irish News Interview, 27 November 1999)
He started acting lessons at around age 27 and formally made it his profession at age 29 (Irish News Interview, 27 November 1999, Production Notes from War of the Buttons, and quote from What's on TV [UK Guide])
He trained at either the Oscar Wilde School of Acting (Interview in What's on Where, May 1999) or the Oscar Theatre School in Dublin, Ireland (Irish News Interview, 27 November 1999 and Bio from As You Like It stage program)
He was nominated for the best actor award by the Royal Television Society for his role as Grady in Cracker, Best Boys (Irish-Times Interview, April 1999)
He was nominated for Best Leading Performer for the inaugural 1999 Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) awards for his performance as Mossie in Falling for a Dancer (Ireland Film and TV Network)
He was nominated for Best Actor for the 1999 IFTA awards for his performance as Sean Cloney in A Love Divided (Ireland Film and TV Network)
He was named as one of the top five Irish actors of the Millennium in a poll conducted by the Ireland Film and Television Network. (Ireland Film and TV Network)
One of his most publicized interests is in Formula One racing; he'd like to race one day (Kenny Live Interview, 17 April 1999)
and last but certainly not least . . .

He is a great dancer (Info supplied to the site from one lucky enough to have witnessed this firsthand:)

Liam's career has included stage and films, to include cinema releases and television dramas. He has been a part of various prestigious stage companies such as The Passion Machine, Royal Court Theatre, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
